Texas Business and Technology Educators Association Region 7

hosted a conference for Bill Wilson, ATCTBTEA colleagues, friends, and supporters on November 13-14, 2011. This year’s conference was held on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University with approximately 108 attendees. ATC training was conducted on the campus of Nacogdoches High School and approximately 30 persons were trained for the articulation of their courses to community colleges. Early arrivals were invited to the home of Carolyn Mathews on Sunday night for a social gathering which featured snacks, networking, and conversation.

David Loper and Ron Camp, Trinity Valley Community CollegeOn Monday, November 14, the morning began with a continental breakfast, registration, and exhibits. Ann Wilson introduced Karen May, President of the Texas Business and Technology Educators Association who gave a brief welcome. Karen introduced David Loper of Trinity Valley Community College faculty. Mr. Loper, served as chair of the registration committee and Treasurer of the Conference as well. Mr. Loper spoke briefly
about membership and the registration process at the conference. Mr. Loper introduced Dan Blier who also spoke about the value of becoming a member of TBTEA.

The opening general session speaker was Dr. Tim Clipson from Stephen F. AustinKen and Nita
State University. His topic for his session was Leadership is for Everyone. Dr.
Clipson gave an entertaining and humorous talk on the trials and tribulations of life.
He stated that life is never what you expect it to be so be ready for change.

Several concurrent sessions were available for the participants to choose from in the morning. Topics included Excel 2010- What are the New Features, Access 2007—
Retrieving Data through Queries, Using Real World Accounting Software, and The
Best Websites to Use on Your Interactive Whiteboard.

Sandy  with CertiportThe afternoon sessions were interesting as well and included such topics as: Word
2010—How is it Different, Cool Tools for Technology in the Classroom, Soft
Skills—We Know They Need Them-How Do We Teach Them and An Introduction to Great Interactive Flipcharts On Your Promethean Board.
The luncheon session speaker was Bettie Curtis, Teacher, West Orange-Stark High School, Bettie is currently serving as the TBTEA Vice-President for Secondary Education. The topic for Bettie’s speech was Empower Your Students for Success. Bettie is completing her fifty-fourth year in teaching.

The closing general session was presented by Ken Lamartiniere from Region 7 Education Service Center and Nita Brooks from CCI Learning. This session was a very interesting and informative session concerning Certiport Training and Certification Information for Industry Certifications.

The conference concluded with the awarding of CEU certificates and door prizes. A Region 7 meeting was conducted immediately after the conference.
